Amethyst is the purple variety of quartz crystal composed of silicon dioxide with traces of iron. Helpful in ridding nightmares. Just hold the Amethyst crystal on the forehead for a minute and ask it to guide you through a peaceful sleep, then place it under your pillow. Also helpful to calm an overworked and overstressed mind.

Ametrine, also known as trystine is a variety of quartz. It is a mixture of amethyst and citrine with zones of purple and yellow or orange. The colour difference is due to differing oxidation states of iron within the crystal which is caused by a temperature gradient during its formation.

As a healing stone, many believe it to have the powers of both amethyst and citrine, making it both a good money stone and to aid spiritual enlightenment. It is said to bring inner peace and tranquility.

Apache tears are a type of obsidian, which is a natural glass, formed as a result of lava that cooled quickly. The tears are thought to represent tears of grief shed by Native American Indians after the death of their sons and husbands from invading troups. It is said to ease and release pain, sadness and anger.

Aragonite is a stabilizing stone that centers and grounds physical energies. It eases adaptation to different situations and people.

Atlantisite, also called tasmanite, is a combination of green serpentine and stichtite. Green aventurine is translucent green quartz with chrome mica inclusions. It is often mistaken for jade. The name aventurine derives from the Italian a ventura meaning by chance. Black is one of the many colours of tourmaline. However, since it is pleochroic, it might be green when viewed along a different axis. This crystal is also piezoelectric which means that through mechanical action an electric pulse is formed, similar to quartz.

As a healing stone, black tourmaline is said to protect against cell phones and radiation. It grounds energy, clears negative thoughts and increases physical vitality. It is said to strengthen the immune system, treat arthritis and provide pain relief.

Blue tiger eye, also known as hawk’s eye is a gemstone closely related to the well known gold tiger eye. In the gold variety, crocidolite is replaced by quartz while its fibrous structure is preserved. In this blue variety, the transformation is only partial, leaving the blue colour to remain. The shimmering eye-like nature, called chatoyancy, is caused by these newly created fibers.

As a healing stone, blue tigers eye is calming and cooling, it helps relieve stress. Use it to resolve restricting and negative thought patterns.

Found in Madagascar, celestite it is composed of strontium sulfate. The sky blue or celestial colour of this crystal makes it very popular among collectors.As a healing stone, celestite is great for promoting communication skills and clarity of mind. It is also excellent for use in dream recall and astral travel.

Chiastolite is a variety of andalusite. This reddish-brown-gray stone has a distinctive graphite cross in the center. As a healing stone, it is powerfully protective that can be used to dispel negative thoughts. Mentally it aids problem solving by strengthening analytic capabilities.

The colours of chrysocolla are blue, green and turquoise, it often has inclusions that consist of browns and yellows. The colours in this stone are reminiscent of looking down at the earth from space. As a healing stone it is gentle, soothing and alleviates tension. Excellent for the heart centre to allow flexibility, self-forgiveness, peace and patience. Also for the throat centre, to express feelings and verbal/artistic creativity. Crazy Lace Agate is a variety of banded chalcedony, a mineral of the quartz family. It is predominantly white, with layers of creamy browns, blacks and grays. Some may include layers of yellow ochre, gold, scarlet and red. As a healing stone it is considered the laughter stone that brings support and optimism.

This green and red jasper is from South Africa. It is often confused with Dragons Blood Jasper or Septarian which is commonly known as Dragons Egg. As a healing stone, it is a strengthener of the physical and etheric bodies particularly when illness or other negative conditions have brought one’s vitality down. Garnet is a family of silicate of magnesium, iron and aluminum. The name originates from the stone’s resemblance to red pomegranate seeds (malum granatum). Due to its hardness, garnet is used largely in abrasives.

Known as the stone of health, extracting negative energy from the chakras, and transmuting the energy to a beneficial state.  Garnet is said to enhance ones internal fire, bringing the creative powers to the stage of implementation.

Goldstone is manmade glass with flecks of copper suspended in it. Its invention occurred by accident in seventeenth-century Venice by the Miotti family. The glass is made in a reducing furnace with copper salts added, this smelts the copper salts back to copper, which then crystallizes.

As a healing stone, it is the stone of ambition and drive and has a gently uplifting quality. The metaphysical properties of copper are said to be the ability to aid the circulatory system, help strengthen bones and fight arthritis pain.

Jet is compressed anthracitic coal originating from wood and is harder than the usual forms of coal. When held, it is surprisingly light for its size. In healing, it is a calming mineral which can be used to dispel fearful thoughts and to protect against illness and violence. It also helps in business and with finances. Aligns with the base chakra and enables the movement of the kundalini.

The manganese in this variety of calcite gives it a pink colour. Calcite is composed of the same material as limestone: calcium carbonate. This transparent to opaque mineral can be found in a variety of colours when it is charged with impurities.

Moonstone (orthoclase) is a semi-translucent stone that is made of albite and feldspar. Moonstone was very popular early in the 20th century and was extensively used in Art Nouveau jewellery.

Prehnite is a silicate which is usually light green to yellow in colour. It is the first mineral to be named after someone; Colenel Hendrik Von Prehn. Prehnite rarely forms distinct crystals, usually it forms as stalactites or botroidals. This particular prehinite is more specifically epidote in prehinite with black tourmaline.

As a healing stone, prehnite strengthens the life force and generally increases and stimulates energy flow. It aids spiritual communication through meditation or visualization, and is a powerful dream stone. It is also helpful in the healing of gout, anemia, and kidney problems.

The shimmering eye-like nature, called chatoyancy, is caused by these newly created fibres. In this red variety, the colour has been created through a gentle heat treatment.

As a healing stone, in addition to the usual properties of gold tiger eye, red is thought to provide motivation and stimulation.

Rutilated quartz is quartz crystals, which are made of silicon dioxide, that contain electronically conductive titanium fibres. Sodalite is a royal blue stone with white veining. It is a hard, yet fragile stone that is named after its sodium content. It is somewhat similar to lapis though it rarely contains pyrite and its veining sets it apart.

As a healing stone, it has been known since antiquity as the stone of artists because it is believed to be able to promote inspiration and creativity while also providing protection. Enhances communication and expression. Cuts through density and illusion bringing clarity and truth. Calms and clears the mind allowing it to become logical and rational.

This variety of feldspar is of the plagioclase variety. The orange-gold and sometimes brown sunstone formed in molten lava. It displays reflections from minute scales of hematite or sometimes goethite, pyrite or copper. The glittery effect is known as aventurescence due to the similar visual effect found in aventurine. It is related to labradorite and moonstone, other types of feldspars also known for the schiller effect they produce.

As a healing stone Sunstone is said to clear and energize the chakras. Dissipates fearfulness, alleviates stress and increases activity. Encourages you to shine. Used in the native medicine wheel to represent the connection with the golden white light.
